A Meeting with a Priest

A Meeting with a Priest

On September 25th, in preparation for our embryo transfer day, I met with Fr. Chuck from St. Austin’s Catholic Church. It’s no secret that I struggled with the decision to move forward with a surrogate. It is not something that is openly accepted by the Catholic Church, and it is not something I was ever open to — but then I got Cancer and life changed.

It took a lot of meetings with the Priest and a lot of prayers to Mary to feel comfortable with our decision to move forward with surrogacy. As we approached this next transfer, I knew I needed guidance. I felt anxious and unable to give that feeling to God. I wanted God to just tell me everything was going to be okay. I was being selfish in my prayers and I needed help.

Upon sitting down with Fr. Chuck, I laid all of my burdens on him. I told him where we were on our journey, reminded him of the advice he gave me in the past, and my fears about moving forward. He was able to provide me guidance and peace. We talked through the bible and prayed together. As I left, Fr. Chuck said, “If you are asking for a sign, you need to be willing to look for signs in obscure places.”
